This article presents data and information to demonstrate that São Paulo has become consolidated as a services city in this new stage of world capitalism, undergoing a process similar to other important cities throughout the world. It deals with the hotel business, one of the fastest-growing sectors in tertiary activities, especially from the 1990s on. It analyzes professionalization in this field, what kind of people is being attracted to it, what type of education is being offered, and what challenges this movement poses to the labor market and workers.Downloads
