Este artigo apresenta reflexões baseadas na qualidade autoral de facilitador de cursos para gestores escolares brasileiros no National College for Teaching and Leadership sobre aspectos de gestão escolar eficaz. Salienta a importância da personalidade e do modo de atuar do gestor escolar e analisa o desafio de tornar a profissão docente e a gestão escolar mais atraentes. Enfatiza que a gestão escolar deve centrar-se na qualidade da aprendizagem, e não em assuntos administrativos. Finalmente, proporciona exemplos das boas práticas que geram escolas públicas bem-sucedidas na Inglaterra e no Brasil.
